About Us

Vision

Hong Kong’s pop culture has always been an indispensable part of our local culture as well as an important cultural brand of Hong Kong. It represents our wit in fusing cultural elements of the East and West, the North and South, and the new and old to forge the very dynamic meeting point of the cultures of the Mainland, Hong Kong and the rest of the world. Our remarkable achievements in pop culture are what Hong Kong people collectively take pride in. Through collaboration with the arts and culture sector, the Pop Culture Programmes Office organises the annual Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival, which not only enhances Hong Kong people’s cultural confidence and upholds the city’s unique cultural glamour, but also facilitates cultural exchange between Hong Kong and different regions, and consolidates Hong Kong’s position as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

Mission

  1. To promote the inheritance and understanding of Hong Kong’s pop culture through a diverse range of arts programmes and extension activities on pop culture.
  2. To support young artists and emerging arts groups in the territory, facilitate inter-generational and cross-disciplinary collaborations, and expand partnerships between Hong Kong and other regions to create more opportunities for cultural exchange and development in different areas.
  3. To curate and showcase distinctive and high-quality programmes in different art forms (including performing arts), with the aim of enhancing public understanding and awareness of the development of Hong Kong’s pop culture.
  4. To make effective use of online platforms for promoting programmes and sharing knowledge and information about pop culture, with a view to arousing the public’s interest in arts, broadening the audience base across different age groups, and engaging more young people and tourists.

STRATEGIES

Promote cultural exchanges

Support local young artists and art groups, foster collaboration between artists with different qualifications and characteristics, and provide a platform for cross-sector collaboration and performance to promote multipartite exchanges in the local pop culture sector.

Present diversified programmes

Organise programmes in different art forms and styles, including performing arts, film screenings and thematic exhibitions, to showcase the blend of the East and West, as well as the new and old, that characterises Hong Kong’s pop culture.

Develop special outreach programmes

Curate unique cultural and arts programmes to attract audiences with different backgrounds and interests, and enrich the audiences’ experience of arts in novel and interesting ways.

Strengthen youth participation

Actively seek collaboration with local tertiary institutions to enhance students’ understanding of Hong Kong’s pop culture, with the aim of aiding cultural inheritance and supplying the industry with new blood.

Broaden the audience base

Expand publicity and collaboration platforms, and promote programmes via online social media so as to build a wider audience base across different age groups; and partner with overseas arts programme organisers and performers to open up new markets outside Hong Kong, thereby extending the promotion of local pop culture to audiences in the Mainland and the rest of the world.
